Memorial Day in Giant City

AT&T Park is probably the most beautiful thing in San Francisco. Matt and I flew to ol' San Fran for Memorial Day Weekend to see a Giants baseball game.
Matt's family loves the San Francisco Giants. His dad grew up in the Bay area and raised his sons to all love this team. Matt's Grandma still lives up there and attends the games occasionally. Somehow I've fallen in love with them too.

A couple days before the game we took a tour of the park. AT&T Park is right on the bay. You can't tell us there's another ball park with a better view.

Waiting for the trolley.

We stopped at a farmers market in downtown. There were flowers and fresh fruit being sold all over. The colors were so gorgeous.

The guy above brought in garbage cans, lids, coffee cans and other things to drum on right in down town. He actually sounded pretty good. There were a lot of homeless people down town. Matt gave one guy his sweatshirt. It was pretty cold that day.

We have never seen a "Tsunami Hazard Zone" sign before. Had to take a pic.

Matt's Grandma went with us on our tour of the ballpark. She is quite the Giants fan herself. She knew the names of many of the players and talked about some of the older players from many years ago.

The Willie Mays statue right in the front of the park. He played for the Giants a long time ago. He's still alive and the Giants team goes and picks him up for every home game of the year. He has his own suite right in the park.

Inside the stadium on a quite day. We were so glad to be there without a crowd so we could see the structure up close. Isn't she pretty?! That Coke bottle has a slide in it for kids to play on during the game.

LOU SEAL the Giants mascot (above). I got him to cheer for me when we were on the tour and I snapped this photo.

Matt, his Grandma, and her friend hanging out in the dugout.

Downtown San Fran.

Alcatraz: there is so much history about this place. We wanted to go and tour the island but ran out of time.

Memorial Day is a special day for Matt and me. We love our country and always make it a point to remember those who have fallen in the service of our country. We often visit the Veterans cemetery near our home each May. Even when we were on vacation in San Francisco, we were able to see a small service given on behalf of the fallen. This Submarine was in active service during WWII. Names of soldiers fallen were being read over a mic that morning.

Part of the ceremony that we saw had a soldier throw a wreath in the water out of respect for the dead. It was really touching.

Silver guy- not sure what he is all about but these guys are all over the place in San Fran.

At the Bubba Gump SF restaurant.

******** GAME DAY!! ********

After the National Anthem, these jets flew over the stadium. It was pretty loud and even more stunning. They leave some impression.

The Giants team during the National Anthem (above). Such a pretty day. There were a few tear filled eyes in the stadium as people remembered their loved ones who had died while in the service.

Mr. Barry Zito is one of the Giant's pitchers. Nothing but exciting watching him warm up for the game.

This guy is named BUSTER. I love it. He is a great hitter and is the Giants catcher.

A little boy sitting out in the stands asked for his baseball to be signed by this player. It was cool to watch him give the little guy his ball back with an autograph.

After the game I gave this homeless man some money. In return he let me take a picture of his sign. It caught my eye and I thought him to be pretty witty

Oakland Temple! Matt and I really wanted to visit this place before we got on the plane to come home. It was on such pretty grounds. Matt's Grandma gave us a great tour of the place. She works there every week.
